About the Forum

Established in 1971 the International Forum on Diplomatic Training (IFDT) is an informal gathering of Deans and Directors of Diplomatic Academies and Institutes of International Relations. This annual meeting is devoted primarily to the discussion and exchange of information about recent trends in diplomacy and experiences gained in training for diplomatic and international careers. The Forum serves as a valuable platform for exchange of views concerning training programs, teaching methods and service requirements and offers an occasion for networking and cooperation.

The 2015 IFDT will take place from 23rd to 25th of September in Warsaw, Poland and will be hosted by the European Academy of Diplomacy and co-organized in partnership with the National School of Public Administration. The organizers would like to use the example of Polish successful systemic transformation as a contribution to development of good practices in diplomatic training in the EU and other countries. The program of the forum is divided into 3 main parts: panel discussions and workshops on the modern trends and methods of training diplomats, general discussion concerning the IFDT and a presentation of the various diplomatic academies, as well as extracurricular cultural activities.

The previous forums were held in Pretoria (2014), Baku (2012), Boston (2011), Malta (2010), Vienna (2009, 2006, 2004, 2001, 1999) and many other cities. The main themes covered during the meetings included topics such as: multilateral diplomacy at the United Nations and other international organizations, regional dimensions of diplomatic training, diplomacy of small states in the globalizing world and environmental diplomacy.
